These 75mm Defcon Urchins are an exceedingly versatile and fun to ride wheel! I use mine as a sort of LDP/Freeride wheel, useful for cruising across town but enables me to rip the hills I find along the way. They slide easily at most speeds and shave off speed predictably and safely. Roll speed is good and they’re fairly lightweight for their size, so they’re easy to get up to speed. Their sensation of grip is secure, they communicate when you’re approaching the limit of traction and don’t let go too suddenly.
My sole criticisms are that they wear just a bit faster than I’d expect. I was leaving bright thane lines on smooth pavement with some of my first slides, didn’t expect that considering my 76a Alphas wouldn’t drop lines except on the roughest pavement. I’d also like to see a softer duro for Defcon, maybe 76a or even softer?
Overall I’d consider these a great wheel for the niche I apply them to, but I’d consider these a great wheel for riders of all experience levels and within multiple disciplines.
